Hazel in Syracuse

Stephanie and Ryan Gilmore got in touch for baby photography for their 7-month-old Hazel. I love when Gillian is able to tag along on photo shoots, not just because she's a good time, but because she has a great eye and often gets awesome shots.

As soon as we started shooting, we realized we were in for a treat. Not only is Hazel beautiful, but she is absurdly camera-friendly... she just look at the camera and smiles. When we both pointed cameras at her, she looked back and forth between them, always smiling. Easy day!

This shoot also was the debut for some new Bemont Photo equipment! This shot was taken with our new Nikon 35mm f/1.8G. I've always wanted a 35mm prime, because it's a great length for indoor family photography... this shot really shows what it can do. Razor sharp in available light, shallow depth of fields, just great.

These are from another new lens, the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC G2. Sigma and Tamron are "off brand" lens manufacturers that traditionally were pretty crappy, but Sigma's new "Art" series primes and Tamrons brand new line of "G2" zooms are fantastic. I bought Tamron's new 70-200mm and 24-70mm f/2.8 zooms.

I always loved the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D, but it's an old lens... it doesn't have vibration compensation or modern lens coatings, and the noisy autofocus and tighter zoom range are a bummer. The modern Nikon version of this lens is nearly $3,000, which is insane. The Tamrons came out just in time for Bemont Photo!

One last shot for the road - I'm not so sure about eating public benches, but what a cute baby.
